The last thing the wizard Drum Billet did, before Deathlaid a bony hand on his shoulder, was to pass on his staff of power to the eighth son of an eighth son.
Unfortunately for his colleagues in the chauvinistic (not to say misogynistic) world of magic, he failed to check that the baby in question was a son.
Everybody knows that there's no such thing as a female wizard. But now it's gone and happened, there's nothing much anyone can do about it.
Let the battle of the sexes begin . . .

am tot evitat sa citesc Pratchett pentru ca nu stiam de unde sa incep, pana cand am gasit lista cartilor Discworld impartita pe subserii. am inceput cu City Watch (cea mai apreciata) si am citit cartile cu sete pana m-am trezit ca am ajuns la ultima si mi-am dat seama ca vreau sa ma intorc in acel univers asa ca m-am hotarat sa citesc si a doua cea mai buna serie, Witches. Equal Rites e prima carte din seria Witches si singura ei problema e ca este prea subtire, la nici 300 de pagini, care se citesc foarte repede. Personajele, chiar daca majoritar feminine, sunt la fel de complexe si interesante si fundalul pe care se desfasoara actiunea, pe cat de fantastic, pe atat de bine conturat; totul bineinteles cu un substrat socio-politic actual si in acelasi timp universal.
