RIG-VEDA, operă reprezentativă a literaturii vechi indiene, include peste o mie de imnuri adresate soarelui, lunii, stelelor, vântului, ploii, focului, pământului. Pe lângă aceste imnuri care vădesc adorarea elementelor naturii, sunt și imnuri pentru ceremonii matrimoniale și religioase etc. Imnul creațiunii din RIG-VEDA a reprezentat, cu certitudine, sursă de inspirație pentru Mihai Eminescu, aspect subliniat într-una din celebrele sale scrisori, Scrisoarea I.
