The Plantation at Prospect Hill: The True Story of the Overtons of Virginia and the War 1861 - 1865

De (autor): William M. Sheehan

The true story of one of the oldest plantations in central Virginia and the people that lived there over a span of centuries. This story is about the romance between Nannie Branch and William G. Overton that began before the war between the Union and the Confederacy, or as it is known today in Louisa County, the War in Defense of Virginia. Overton, a Captain in the First Virginia, known as the Irish Battalion, served under Stonewall Jackson and then General Robert E. Lee after Jackson was killed by his own men in Spotsylvania. He never went home except for his sister's wedding near the end of the war. He married Nannie Giles ten years later and they loved each other until she died after more than 40 years. He vividly recalls the battle at Gettysburg during the re-enactment in 1913 and realizes his feelings for the Lost Cause were wrong and goes home to take care of his wife until her passing.
