The baby is in the middle of the road. Cocooned in a car seat, tiny face suddenly, violently, illuminated by the headlights.

Detective Dove Milson swerves to avoid the car seat. Ten metres up the road, a car is crashed in a ditch.

Detective Steve Parker rushes to the car, while Dove attends to the baby.

But it's just a doll, and the driver is missing. There is a trail of blood leading into the woods.

As the detectives search the scene, someone shoots at them. Dove sees a shadowy figure crashing off into the woods. Then she realizes that Steve has been hit.

When backup arrives, the driver of the abandoned car is found dead nearby. A carved stone heart placed in her mouth.

She's not the murderer's first victim. And she won't be the last.
