Recovering from an illness, a bed-ridden Violet becomes concerned when the Grogans' next-door neighbors break from their normal routine. To humor her, Jen Grogan heads over to check on them-and discovers a drugged teenage girl, a screaming baby, and two missing parents.

Meanwhile, Deputy Benno is hot on the trail of what he's more and more sure is a serial killer in Veil. The sheriff is still skeptical, so Benno digs deeper-and discovers connections to murders in other parts of New England, dating back years.
