Roberto Bolaño nació en Santiago, Chile, en 1953. Pasó gran parte de su vida en México y en España, donde murió a la edad de cincuenta años. Su libro Los detectives salvajes ganó el Premio Rómulo Gallegos de Novela y fue uno de los Mejores Libros del 2007 para The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times y The New York Times Book Review. En 2008, recibió póstumamente el Premio de Ficción del National Book Critics Circle por 2666.
