The world of the book happens as Ezra's life flashes across time and geography during their final act of protest. The novel leaps from memories of childhood, gender identity formation, and political revelation to the inherited memory and historical movements of Ezra's family. This book explores how historical memory shapes our political and emotional present as it exists at the intersections of protest, religion, and desire.
