A Seeker's Journey Into Sacred Time and Space
A Seeker's Journey Into Sacred Time and Space
David Trimble, now eighty, has been a psychotherapist, family therapist, and clinical psychologist for more than fifty years. A spiritual seeker before he was born, he had his first spiritual crisis at the age of nine. He has been a peace, justice, and anti-racist activist since adolescence; arrested in an act of civil disobedience as a peace activist at the age of seventeen. The scion of multiple generations of Methodist ministers, he left his native religion as a young adult. When he was thirty, his search led him to an Espiritista (a shamanic practitioner from the Dominic Republic). Guided by the Espiritista, he experienced a moment of union with Divine Consciousness. Decades of succeeding search led him to sacred texts and teachers in a multitude of traditions. He ultimately found his way Judaism. He is a student of Kabbalah and Chasidut, meets regularly with a teacher of the Kabbalah of Rabbi Yehuda Bein Ashlag. Speaking in the voice of a Seeker and a social justice activist, his memoir invites readers to pursue their spiritual journeys and contribute to replacing the current global culture that is grounded in materialism and individualism, ideologies which endanger life on our planet. The idea and the metaphor of Sacred Space emerge in a book he edited seven years before publication of his memoir, Engaging with Spirituality in Family Therapy: Meeting in Sacred Space.
