Newton, Ouida: - Ouida Newton's remarkable career in education spans thirty-eight years of dedicated service. Receiving many awards and accolades throughout her time in education, she had the distinct honor of being named 2015 Arkansas Teacher of the Year. In 2016, she was appointed by Governor Asa Hutchinson to serve on the Arkansas State Board of Education. Beyond her teaching role, Ouida's commitment to enhancing education is evident through her involvement in state-level committees, facilitation of professional development of colleagues, as well as serving as keynote speaker to large groups and organizations. Ouida has been a faithful member of her local church, Poyen Assembly of God, where her leadership is exemplified through her teaching of Adult Bible Studies since 1992, often writing the curriculum herself. Unable to continue in-person sessions during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ouida continued her ministry by writing concise studies and presenting them via Facebook. Married for forty-six years to her devoted husband, Jerry, Ouida resides on her farm with an abundance of cherished pets, cows, and chickens.
